FBI office in India not a security threat: Jaswant Singh

The office of the United States's Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Delhi, which has been functional since last year, does not carry out independent investigations and therefore no security problems are expected to arise from their activities in the country, the Lok Sabha was informed on Wednesday.

The legal attache office, manned by two FBI officers, acts in coordination with Indian law enforcement agencies and does not carry out independent investigations, External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh said in a written reply.

No security problems were, therefore, expected to arise from it, he said adding officers of Indian law enforcement agencies functioning in the Indian embassy in Washington also follow similar guidelines.
