He told reporters that a circular to this effect has been issued to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
"As the language used with respect to Guru Tegh Bahadur, Mahavir and the Jat community in the NCERT history books was derogatory, the said portions have been removed," Joshi said.
The portions that stated cow meat was consumed during the Rig Veda period, which had led to a lot of resentment, have also been deleted, he said adding any such material which could have a negative impact on the children or on any religion would not be included in the future.
The minister said the level of education in the country would be enhanced and 'modern subjects' such as information technology and biotechnology would be incorporated in the syllabus.
