Punjab Congress chief supports
general amnesty for cops

Punjab Congress president Capt Amrinder Singh on Friday called for a general amnesty for police personnel facing various charges of human rights violations.

Supporting Union Home Minister L K Advani's remarks on the issue, he said it was necessary since the police officials had fought for the return of peace in the state.

"If the same situation emerges once again, none of them will like to act considering bitter experiences like these," he said.

After paying tribute to former chief minister Beant Singh at Payal near Ludhiana, he told reporters that all those youth who were languishing in jails without any trial should be produced in court and accorded a fair trial.
