India denies reports of Jaswant Singh's visit to Pak

India on Thursday evening brushed aside reports in Pakistani media about External Affairs and Defence Minister Jaswant Singh undertaking a visit to Islamabad ahead of next month's New York summit between Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf.

"We are not aware of any such plans as of now of a visit in September," an external affairs ministry spokesperson told reporters in response to a question.

Both Vajpayee and Singh have accepted invitations to visit Pakistan but there has been no official word on when they proposed to undertake it.

Pakistani Urdu daily Khabren, quoting unnamed sources, had reported that Singh would visit Islamabad either in the first or the second week of next month.
