VHP to 'restore' 30,000 temples

Vishwa Hindu Parishad vice president Acharya Giriraj Kishore said on Tuesday that the party would take up "restoration" of about 30,000 temples in the country, which were "damaged" in the past, after constructing a Ram temple in Ayodhya.

"We would restore about 30,000 temples in the country after fulfilling the task of constructing the Ram temple in Ayodhya," Kishore said.

He reiterated that work on the temple would commence as per schedule irrespective of whether the Vajpayee government stayed in office or not.

About the other temples, Kishore said the VHP would emphasis on restoring them even though the government had termed many of them as disputed structures.

The VHP local committees across the country were raising this issue and it was a matter of time before their dreams were translated into action, Kishore said.

The local wing of VHP would decide on the issue of the "destruction" of Baldevjeu temple in Orissa and "construction" of another place of worship during the Mughal period, he said.
