AIIMS doctors withdraw strike

Resident doctors of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences on Tuesday called off their six-day strike following the Delhi high court orders to the Centre and the institute to restore normalcy within 36 hours.

"We have called off the strike and all of us would join work by Tuesday afternoon," Dr Prem Kumar, president, Resident Doctors' Association said.

Meanwhile, the non-medical staff, who had also gone on strike on Monday, have not yet taken a decision.

The stir by the doctors was provoked by the alleged beating up of two junior doctors by group C and D employees for refusing to give more medicines to an employee on his demand. A doctor's arm was fractured in the incident.

The non-medical staff struck work in protest against the management's decision to suspend five of its union members and terminate the services of 18 adhoc employees for manhandling the two junior doctors.
