AIIMS stalemate continues, employees threaten strike

The stalemate at the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Sunday showed no signs of resolution with the Resident Doctors Association (RDA) deciding to continue their strike and non-medical employees sticking to their decision to go on partial strike from Monday.

The RDA had began their indefinite strike from August 22 after two junior doctors were allegedly beaten up by group C and D employees for refusing to give more medicines to an employee. A doctor's arm was fractured in the incident.

The general body meeting of the RDA decided to continue the stir as they were not satisfied with administration's approach to solve the crisis, Dr Prem Kumar, president of the RDA said.

Demanding dismissal of the employees involved in manhandling two resident doctors, he said "We have lost our belief in verbal assurances."

Hospital authorities had on Saturday suspended about half-a-dozen employees after a fact-finding committee submitted its report to the AIIMS Director P K Dave.

Meanwhile, Karamchari Union leader Sat Prakash said they would go on a total strike as some workers had been suspended and 'the services of some others might be terminated'.

"Arrest warrants against four employees - Ved Prakash, Ramesh, Vijay and myself - have been issued and our anticipatory bail has been rejected," he said.
