Crude bomb blast in train, 11 injured

Eleven persons were injured when a crude bomb exploded in a Howrah-bound passenger train as it pulled into Kharagpur railway station early on Saturday morning, a senior police official said.

The bomb, hidden in a bag in an unreserved compartment on the 201 Puri-Howrah, exploded when some passengers touched the bag, Superintendent of Police A K Malliwal said.

The explosion caused minor damage to some berths and seats, a South Eastern Railway spokesman told PTI.

Splinters collected by the police and GRP indicated that it was a crude bomb, the spokesman said.

Three of the seriously injured passengers were admitted to the South Eastern Railway Hospital, while the others were discharged after first aid, Malliwal said.

The train left for its destination after a delay of an hour.
