Army kills nine militants in Kashmir

Binoo Joshi in Jammu

Nine militants were killed as Indian troops on Saturday repulsed a determined bid by Pakistani-supported terrorists to cross the Line of Control, official sources said.

The militants were killed in three separate incidents in the Peer Badesar area of the Pir Panjal range of the Himalayas in the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch.

An army spokesman said that a group of 25-30 terrorists attempted to raid a forward Indian post in Poonch. Three raiders were killed and half a dozen wounded, the spokesman said.

The raiders fled and managed to drag back their wounded comrades with them, the spokesman said.

Troops killed four militants who were trying to infiltrate from Sandhara area near Mendhar in the same district, the spokesman said.

Two other militants were killed in the Chingus area near Naushera in Rajouri district, the spokesman said.
