Basharat Peer in New Delhi
The Delhi police on Monday night recovered the body a woman, with bullet marks in her head and chest, from a Honda car parked by the roadside in Vasant Vihar in Delhi. Her husband was also found lying in the same car with a bullet lodged in his thigh.
Rajini Kumar and Vijay Kumar, residents of Aya Nagar near Mehrauli in south-west Delhi, were rushed to the Safdarjung hospital, where Rajini was declared 'brought dead.'
Vijay Kumar told the police that he gave a lift to man near Munirka late on Monday night. A little ahead on the same road, two more men asked for a lift and the Kumars obliged.
A few minutes later, one of three asked Vijay to stop the car and fired at his wife and him with a revolver.
The police have not found any weapon in the car.
"I believe the husband has something to with the murder. Otherwise, why has he been shot in his thigh and the wife twice in her forehead and chest. Also, it seems unlikely that anyone in Delhi would give three people a lift, that too in the dead of the night," a police officer told rediff.com.
Vijay Kumar, a property dealer, is still in the hospital, and the post-mortem on his wife's body is likely to be done soon.
Investigative teams have been dispatched to Rajini's maternal home in Ashok Vihar in north Delhi, to ascertain whether there was any domestic rift between the husband-wife.
