Gangsters poison rivals in Khagaria

Soroor Ahmed in Patna

At least 13 persons were poisoned to death by a rival gang in Panchbhiga village under Bildaur police station of Bihar's Khagaria district on Monday night.

According to police sources, notorious outlaw Shahendra Sharma invited long-time rival Kundan Yadav and his men of Naugachia block in Bhagalpur district for dinner.

It is said that Sharma and his men had an eye on the sophisticated weapons in Yadav's possession.

Yadav and his men came to dinner with their weapons, as is the norm for ganglords in much of rural Bihar. But soon after having dinner, they collapsed and died.

Sharma and his men threw the bodies in a nearby river and decamped with all the weaponry.

Police have confirmed 13 deaths so far, but local people say the toll may be higher.

District Magistrate Deepak Kumar Singh and Superintendent of Police Amit Jain rushed to the village after hearing of the news on Tuesday morning.
