Thirteen people were killed and several injured as violence marred the final phase of Bihar panchayat polls, which drew a seventy per cent voters turn out.
Inspector General of Police Nilmani said three persons, including the grandson of a candidate, were killed when the crude bombs they were making exploded at Sisma village in Naxalite-hit Nawada district.
Fourteen people, including the candidate, have been taken into custody.
Director General of Police R R Prasad said two persons were killed in police firing at separate places in Gaya district during the voting.
While one person was killed when the police fired at an unruly mob at Sindswara village, another died in police firing on a group of people looting a mobile booth at Matihani.
A home guard jawan Sitaram Paswan was killed when miscreants attacked a booth under Aliganj block in Jamui.
A booth-grabber was killed and another injured in an encounter with the police at Lahila village under Sikandara block in the same district.
Another person, identified as Bullet Singh, was killed when two rival groups clashed at Sahapur village in Gopalganj district.
The police opened fire at more than 12 places in Patna, Gaya and Nawada districts to prevent booth grabbing, Prasad said adding that seven persons were injured in the firing.
Snatching of ballot papers were also reported from a few places in Patna, Gaya and Nawada districts, he said.
