Three killed as Bihar panchayat polls begin on a violent note

Three persons were killed and two others injured as the sixth and final phase of elections in 957 booths spread over 27 blocks in Bihar began Monday morning.

Inspector General of Police (Operations) Neelmani told PTI in Patna that three persons, including the grandson of a mukhiya candidate Sheetal Singh, were killed when crude bombs went off at Sisma village in naxal-hit Nawada district.

The explosion took place when some persons were manufacturing bombs to disturb the polls. Two others who were injured in the incident were admitted to a hospital in Nawada, he said.

The IGP said 14 persons, including Singh, were taken into custody. Two country-made rifles were seized from Singh's house during the raid, he added.
