A senior Border Security Force officer and four security personnel accompanying him were seriously injured in an explosion at Nowpora in Bandipora town (75 kms from capital Srinagar) in northern Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday morning.
A wireless operator attacked to the officer was among the injured, a police official in Bandipora said.
Police said BSF 20 Battalion Commandant Ashwini Kumar and the wireless operator were rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
Sources said Kumar may be shifted to Srinagar for specialised treatment.
Sources said an Improvised Explosive Device exploded when Kumar was moving around in the area. His vehicle was extensively damaged in the incident.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Minutes after the explosion security force and police officials rushed to the spot. BSF reinforcements from adjoining areas also reached the spot.
BSF troops cordoned the area and mounted searches.
Sources said militants also fired at the troops who retaliated. Locals alleged a civilian, Abdul Aziz, was killed in the crossfire.
Early Monday morning, a powerful explosion near Banihal resulted in serious injuries to three army soldiers and two special police officers.
