Hurriyat's working committee begins meet

In a bid to reach a consensus on holding talks with the Centre, the 21-member working committee of Hurriyat Conference began a closed-door meeting in Srinagar on Saturday.

The working commitee, comprising seven major constituents representing the amalgam's executive council -- the highest decision-making body of the Hurriyat -- began discussions at the organisation's Rajbagh headquarters in uptown Srinagar, a spokesman of the Hurriyat Conference told PTI.

He said the meeting would decide about the offer of unconditional dialogue by Centre's negotiator K C Pant on the Kashmir issue and the response of the Hurriyat. The spokesman clarified that the working committee of the Hurriyat only consists of three members each of the seven-party executive council.

The meeting would be followed by a general council meeting comprising all the constituents of the 23-party conglomerate.

The working committee and general council meetings would be later discussed at the executive meeting, expected to take place next week, to announce Hurriyat's stand on whether to hold a dialogue with Pant.
