Rashtriya Janata Dal working president Dr Ranjan Yadav was on Wednesday removed from his post.
Party president Laloo Prasad Yadav announced this on arriving in Patna from Delhi in the afternoon.
Earlier, in an interview to a television channel in New Delhi on Tuesday, Laloo Yadav had said that as per the party constitution there was no post of working president in the party.
He said it was a temporary arrangement put in place before he was sent to jail for the first time in July 1997 and said it was a mistake.
He said Dr Ranjan Yadav did not open his mouth on the tehelka.com expose, which had sent wrong signals to the party's rank and file.
Meanwhile, objecting to Laloo Yadav's interview, dissidents in the RJD claimed that Dr Ranjan Yadav was still the party's working president.
Among those who attended the dissidents' press conference on Wednesday were Minister of State for Sports and Culture Monazir Hassan, Minister of State for Health Akhilesh Singh and six legislators of the RJD.
The dissidents claimed that by April 30 there would be a change in the leadership of the RJD legislature party.
Meanwhile, former Bihar finance minister Shankar Prasad Tekriwal said he does not accept Laloo Yadav as the RJD president.
