DMK MLA quits party following
denial of ticket

Ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam MLA K Durai, representing the Tiruverumbur assembly constituency in Tamil Nadu, on Monday quit the party after he was denied a ticket to contest in the forthcoming polls.

"Certain groups had levelled false charges against me and it was unfortunate that the high command believed them. The denial of ticket has prompted me to quit the party,'' he said in a statement.

Durai is the second MLA to quit DMK in the run-up to the assembly polls. Earlier, former minister M Tamizhkudimagan left the party and joined the rival All India Anna DMK after his Ilayangudi seat was allocated to Makkal Tamizh Desam in seat-sharing arrangement.
