A pygmy mouse (Mus minutoides) sits on a piece of wood beside a 500 yen coin. This rodent pygmy is part of an exhibition of small animals at Tokyo's Ueno Zoo. The mouse, one of the smallest mammal species on earth, is merely three centimeters long and weighs less than five grams, about one millionth of the weight of an elephant, the largest land mammal.
