Six shot dead in Bihar

Six persons, including four members of a family, were shot dead and two others injured by unidentified gunmen in Bihar's Jehanabad district Friday night, officials said Saturday.

Jehanabad district magistrate H S Meena and police superintendent R S Bhatti told PTI that around 25 heavily-armed gunmen swooped on Thalubigha village under Ghosi police station and rained bullets at people sitting outside the house of Gayalal Yadav, killing five persons.

Gayalal's two sons, Virendra and Surendra, his newphews Kamal Yadav and Madhesh Yadav and one Ramsevak Yadav were killed on the spot.

Two others, who suffered gunshot injuries, were admitted to the Sadar hospital in Jehanabad where their condition was stated be critical, they said.

Police suspect the hands of Communist Party of India-(ML) (Liberation) extremists behind the killings. A land dispute was also believed to be a reason behind it.

The situation was stated to be tense in the area following the incident. Bhatti said raids were being conducted to arrest the killers.

In another incident, Surendra Singh, former mukhia of Mandebigha panchayat, was gunned down by suspected People's War Group ultras at Ramdeochak under Karoana police station in the same district Friday night.

No arrest have been made so far, Bhatti added.
