Satyanarayana Rao resigns from Vajpayee ministry

Minister of State S B P B K Satyanarayana Rao has resigned from the Vajpayee government saying ministers of his rank 'do not have sufficient work'.

Rao released his resignation letter to the press on Friday and acknowledged receipt of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's written communication to him advising compliance of guidelines and additional instructions on austerity measures.

Rao, whose resignation comes on the eve of Saturday's reshuffle of the Union Council of Ministers, said in his September 26 letter that 'Ministers of State in the Union government do not have sufficient work, which can adequately justify the expenditure incurred on their offices'.

A Bharatiya Janata Party Lok Sabha member from Andhra Pradesh, Rao said, "After carefully considering the words of wisdom contained in your letter, I have come to the conclusion that by resigning from the Union Council Of Ministers, I would be saving the exchequer avoidable expenditure."
