Ashwin Naik's bail cancelled: arrest warrant issued

A Bombay sessions court Thursday cancelled the bail of notorious gangster Ashwin Naik in two criminal cases pending in different police stations in Bombay concerning murder of rival gangsters.

The bail was cancelled by Additional Sessions Judge H S Deshpande on the ground that he had misused liberty. The judge ordered issue of arrest warrant against the accused who is now lodged in Delhi's Tihar jail.

He was held recently when he was attempting to cross the border for visiting a neighbouring country.

Ashwin, younger brother of gang leader late Amar Naik, had secured bail in 1987 in two cases at Dadar and Agripada police stations. Thereafter, he had allegedly committed eight serious offences, special public prosecutor A G Deshmukh, contended.

An engineer by profession, Ashwin was shot at outside a court here by a rival gangster who was dressed up in a lawyer's attire. He was paralysed for quite some time and recovered after undergoing treatment for several months.
