NDA appeals for peace in WB, leaves hike to Naik

The constituents of the National Democratic Alliance on Saturday called upon the West Bengal government and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) to end the violence unleashed against the people.

Briefing newspersons after the meeting of the co-ordination committee of the NDA in New Delhi, Defence Minister George Fernandes said that the NDA had appealed to the state government and the CPI-M to take steps to restore normalcy in the state.

He said that the NDA had also authorised Petroleum Minister Ram Naik to take appropriate decision regarding the hike in prices of petroleum-products keeping international trends in mind.

Fernandes said that the NDA had unanimously authorised Naik to take a decision in the matter of petroleum-products prices keeping the international situation in mind.
