E-Mail this report to a friend

The situation Ahmedabad, which witnessed group clashes and stone pelting on Thursday night, was peaceful on Friday and curfew was relaxed further.

Police said a 500-strong mob indulged in stone-pelting at passing vehicles outside Delhi Darwaza area and attempted to set a shop on fire. Police lobbed teargas shells to disperse the mob.

In a separate incident, police had to resort to lathicharge to disperse a clashing mob at Madhupura locality of the city. At least three persons were injured in the lathicharge, police said adding that two dozen miscreants were arrested in this connection.

Meanwhile, the indefinite curfew, imposed in the sensitive Dariapur area after group clashes over 'bogus voting' during civic election last Sunday, was further relaxed between 0800 and 2100 hours (IST).

Nine persons were killed in the violence, eight of them in police firing.
