Bill Gates arrives in India

E-Mail this report to a friend

Microsoft chairman Bill Gates arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday for a hectic 24-hour visit, the second in three years.

Gates, whose visit coincides with the completion of Microsoft India's 10 years of operation, will unveil the company's global .Net strategy in the country.

The world's richest man, Gates is also expected to announce a new alliance with India's emerging IT giant Infosys Technologies during his short stay.

He will meet Union Information Technology Minister Pramod Mahajan and interact with various state chief ministers on Thursday and discuss the company's future initiatives in India.

Gates, who was keen to meet Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, will be unable to do so as the latter is currently in the US.

Gates will also interact with the IT industry through CEO and CIO/CTO fora, and address an e-governance session.

The key focus will be the company's ".Net" strategy announced in June this year with Gates scheduled to meet the developer and independent software vendors community in the country.

The .Net strategy involves software built on Internet standards, enabling better interaction between various Web sites.
