Bibhuti Mishra in Bhubaneshwar

A Central Bureau of Investigation team from New Delhi has conducted raids on some Bharatiya Janata Party leaders, in connection with a forgery case.

The raids were conducted to investigate a forged letter, from the late Union minister for power P R Kumaramangalam, to the National Thermal Power Corporation general manager. The team, camping at the NTPC since September 5, has interrogated some BJP activists too.

The letter, on the late minister's letterpad, was allegedly forged. Addressed to NTPC general manager Mahananda Jha, it instructed him to give a job to Narayan Garnaik, a BJP activist of Bajrakote village.

Jha sent the letter to the NTPC headquarters for clarification, when the forgery was noticed. The ministry requested the CBI to inquire into the matter.

The BJP leaders and Garnaik have pleaded innocence. The CBI team is likely to conduct more raids and interrogate more people.
