Gujral exerted pressure on me: Joginder

E-Mail this report to a friend

Former Central Bureau of Investigations chief Joginder Singh has claimed that former prime minister I K Gujral had exerted pressure on him to withdraw criminal charges against Laloo Prasad Yadav in the fodder scam.

''Gujral had pressed me to drop the move to involve Laloo in the criminal case related to fodder scam. He even threatened me with dire consequences,'' Singh told newspersons in Ambala on Saturday.

Singh said he refused to yield, at which Gujral remarked: ''I am the prime minister and you should be aware of that.''

''I did not bow to pressure and preferred to be transferred,'' Singh added.

He said tainted politicians should be thrown out of politics. ''Unless political parties take action against such elements, they will continue to prevail,'' Singh noted.

Stressing that it was time that Indian politicians learnt lessons from their foreign counterparts, Singh said British Premier Tony Blair, who recently directed the police to take suitable action against his son for getting inebriated, should be role models for Indian politicians.
