Nine militants among 14 killed in J&K: PTINine militants and two securitymen were among 14 people killed in Jammu and Kashmir since Friday evening, an official spokesman said in Srinagar Saturday. Two militants, a self-styled "divisional commander" of the Muslim Janbaaz Force Mushtaq Ahmad Pir alias Abu Basharat and his associate Wali Mohammed, fell to the bullets of security forces during a search operation at Hafarda forest in Kupwara district in north Kashmir Friday night. They had recently returned from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, he said. In another encounter Saturday morning, security forces shot dead a militant at Chogal in the district. Security forces gunned down two militants associated with Harkat-e-Jehadi Islami outfit at Doursanzi-Dudkul of Anantnag district Friday evening and seized some arms and ammunition. Two security personnel and a militant were killed in a gun fight at Charwlan-Surankote in Poonch district Friday. A securityman was injured in the incident, he said. Three militants were killed in separate encounters at Darhal, Lam-Naushera and Madoon-Pathandhok in Rajouri district Friday, he said. A counter-insurgent associated with Ikhwan, who was injured in a shootout with militants at Kulgam in Anantnag district, succumbed to injuries Saturday. A Special Police Officer was shot dead by another SPO after the duo had a scuffle at Exchange Road in the heart of Srinagar Friday night, he said. A decomposed body was recovered from Hukh-Liter of Badgam district, he said. PTI |
