British undertrial escapes from custody in Goa

E-Mail this report to a friend

A British national, an under-trial facing charges under Narcotics Drugs and Psychotrophy Substance Act, escaped from police custody in Goa on Friday.

Police said the accused, Nigel John Smith, managed to give a slip to the police while he was being escorted from an NDPS court to the judicial lock-up at Mapusa.

The court, after remanding him to judicial custody, had directed the police to produce him before it on September 27.

Smith was arrested by the Canacona police on Janaury 9 this year on the charge of possessing 48 grams of charas and four dots of LSD.

An offence has been registered and a search has been launched to nab him.
