Another retired armyman held for ISI links: PTIA day after the arrest of five persons, including two former army officers, for alleged espionage for Inter Services Intelligence, the Uttar Pradesh police Thursday nabbed another retired army personnel for alleged links with the Pakistani intelligence agency. Senior superintendent of police Arun Kumar told PTI that a special task force of state police nabbed retired army havildar Ram Krishna Nair, a resident of Kerala, for allegedly passing on sensitive defence information to the ISI. Nair confessed he had links with the five ISI operatives who were arrested on Wednesday and admitted he had passed on information to them, Kumar said. Nair had taken voluntary retirement from the army in 1999 and had been working for the ISI since 1997, he added. Kumar said the police had informed the army officials about serving havildar R D Tripathi, who allegedly has links with anti-national elements. Nair and Tripathi were posted in Lucknow and were allegedly involved in passing on sensitive defence related secrets to the ISI agents, Kumar said. He said the police were also interrogating a senior official of the public sector Hindustan Aeronatical Limited (HAL) for alleged links with the ISI. It was found that the official had been to Nepal recently, Kumar said. He said another serving havildar was also passing on classified information to the ISI and higher officials have been informed. Efforts are on to nab the remaining ISI agents and others associated with the espionage ring, Kumar said.
