Delhi executive arrested in secretary's murder

Delhi police have arrested a company executive on charges of murdering his private secretary with an overdose of chloroform while trying to rape her, a police spokesman said on Saturday.

The spokesman said Sanjay Tandon, a sales manager in a Delhi-based firm, offered a lift to his secretary Meenakshi Jain late Friday and then used chloroform to subdue the 29-year-old woman, allegedly in order to rape her.

"Jain died from an overdose of the anaesthesia her boss had given her," he said, adding the suspect was arrested after a motorist reported seeing the the woman prone in Tandon's car with a bottle of chloroform next to her.

The body of Jain, who was set to be married next month, has been sent for an autopsy to determine whether she was sexually assaulted before her death in her boss's car, the spokesman added.
