Abdullah has raised a pertinent issue: Dhindsa

Onkar Singh in New Delhi

Union Minister of Sports Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa on Saturday endorsed the view of the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah that the National Democratic Alliance partners should sit down and discuss some of the statements made by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief K S Sudershan regarding Indianisation of the minorities in the country

"I think Dr Abdullah has raised a pertinent issue and this needs to be discussed amongst NDA partners other than the BJP. The BJP should not have any objection if other parties meet and discuss the issue," Dhindsa told rediff.com on Saturday morning. Dhindsa is the sole representative of the Shiromani Akali Dal in the Union government.

He agreed with Dr Abdullah that such serious issues should not be ignored because there are large number of Indian citizens who come from other religions. "Besides Hindus we have Christians, Muslims, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists etc living in India. The Constitution gives equal right to all the citizens of India to follow their religion.

He denied that such a move would be against the interests of the government. "We are not going against anyone. We are merely discussing something that needs to be discussed," he clarified. He made it amply clear that discussion does not mean a revolt against the government.
