Advani, Fernandes to meet J&K
legislators on Sunday: PTI

Border fencing, unabated shelling by Pakistan from across the border and the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir will be discussed and reviewed during the visit of Union ministers L K Advani and George Fernandes to Srinagar on Sunday.

The state government has arranged a meeting between the visiting ministers and legislators to apprise the Centre of difficulties being faced by the people, especially in border areas, official sources said.

The issue of alleged non-payment of rent by defence forces of areas occupied by them and other security forces will also be taken up at the meeting.

All members of the assembly have been invited to the meeting.

Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah appealed to all legislators not to adopt a hostile attitude. "We have arranged the meeting not to criticise each other but to solve our problems,'' he told members on the concluding day of the autumn session of the state legislature on Thursday.

His remarks came in the wake of sharp criticism of security forces for alleged atrocities in the state.

The legislators appealed to security agencies to take people along with them in the fight against militants and avoid targeting civilians.
