Former ED official Ashok Aggarwal arrested by CBI

The Central bureau of Investigation on Thursday arrested former deputy director of the Enforcement Directorate Ashok Aggarwal on the charge of allegedly possessing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.

In a pre-dawn swoop, sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Branch raided Aggarwal's house and arrested him, sources said.

Aggarwal was earlier arrested by the CBI on December 24 last year in Saharanpur for alleged misconduct and criminal forgery. He was on the 'run' for three weeks before the CBI traced him using his mobile phone.

Central Vigilance Commission Chief N Vittal had recommended withdrawal of Aggarwal from any sensitive post in the ED after a businessman filed a complaint against with the CVC.

He was out on bail since September last.
