Medical experts OK sale of Viagra in India

It is matter of time before the world famous drug for erectile dysfunction Viagra will be available in the Indian market on prescription with medical experts giving the go-ahead to the sale of the drug.

"After clinical tests conducted in the country, we have found that Viagra can be sold as a prescribed drug. We have already submitted our report to the government," N P Gupta, head of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, told reporters in New Delhi.

The tests have also revealed that the drug cannot be prescribed to patients taking Nitrate group of medicines like Sorbitrate, Gupta said adding the medicine should also not be taken by people suffering from serious cardiac problems.

Asked about apprehension expressed by various sections of the society, urologist Dr Mahesh Desai from Muljibhai Patel Hospital, Gujarat, said, "The medicine can definitely not be sold as an over-the-counter drug and should be a prescribed drug."
