Christian council slams RSS
on swadeshi Church issue

The All India Christian Council Wednesday condemned the Rashtriya Sawayamsevak Sangh chief K S Sudarshen's suggestion that India must have a swadeshi Church and said the idea represented Sangh Parivar's "bigoted and false view of the Christian faith."

The council, which claims to represent over 6 million Christians, said: "The RSS definition of nationalism based on religion goes against the Constitution and modern Indian nationhood created by leaders such as Gandhi, Nehru and Ambedkar among others."

Stating that the utterances of RSS leaders "will cause further divisions in the country," the council said: "Sudarshen's call for a swadeshi Church has to be rejected outright since Indian Christians of all denominations have always been Indians and nothing else for 2000 years."

"The time has come for the NDA allies to wake up and take action as the RSS has clearly stated its stand and plans for the future," the statement said.
