Five of family killed in Siwan to avenge Yadavs' massacre

Soroor Ahmed in Patna

Five people belonging to the minority community were gunned down in a retaliatory attack in Siwan district on Monday night.

Though independent sources claimed that seven persons were killed in the attack, the director general of police, K A Jacob, confirmed five deaths while talking to rediff.com. All the victims belong to one family.

The latest incident occurred in Tahira village, which is about seven km from Mujahidpur where 11 Yadavs were slain in the wee hours of Saturday. Jacob said the attackers came from the neighbouring villages.

According to reports, the rival gang of Satish Pandey was involved in Monday night's killing, as the victims are said to be related to the Rashtriya Janata Dal MP, Shahabuddin.

Pandey, who unsuccessfully fought the assembly election on a Samata Party ticket last February, is said to pose a stiff challenge to the Shahabuddin.

According to the CPI-ML, both Pandey and Shahabuddin are out to disturb the peace in Siwan district, though these killings are a purely criminal act. About two dozen people have lost their lives in gang-war in Siwan since the first week of September.

The RJD chief, Laloo Prasad Yadav, is scheduled to visit the village soon.
