MiG 21s crash after mid-air collision

Two Indian Air Force MiG-21s crashed after colliding in mid-air over Darrang-Sonitpur districts of lower Assam around noon on Monday, killing the pilot of one aircraft.

Darrang Superintendent of Police P Bhattacharjee informed that the two MiGs had taken off from the Misamari Airforce base in Sonitpur district. After the crash, one plane fell in Bengenabari, under Orang police station in Darrang district, and the other in Rowmari in Sonitpur district.

The pilot of one of the MiGs, identified as Juth Singh, was killed while another unidentified person accompanying him bailed out to safety, Bhattacharjee said.

Details of the other aircraft were not immediately known as it was lying in a remote location.

Senior IAF, police and civil officials have rushed to the site.
