Four Indians evacuated from Middle East trouble spot

Four Indian engineers were evacuated from Ramallah area of the Palestinian National Authority, where serious clashes between Israeli troops and Palestinians left scores dead and several hundred injured.

Another Indian, working as a consultant in a United States firm, will be repatriated from Gaza on October 18, a spokesman of the Ministry of External Affairs said in New Delhi on Monday.

He said all Indians in Israel and the PNA, numbering around 330, are safe and the Indian mission is in constant touch with them to render any help.

The engineers were shifted from Ramallah in co-operation with the PNA and handed over to the Indian embassy officials.

External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh is also in touch with the mission to get an update about the welfare of the Indians. There are around three hundred Indians in Israel, mainly involved in diamond business, besides some nuns and students.
