Sharad Yadav takes ill, hospitalised

Our Correspondent in Patna Janata Dal (United) president and Union Civil Aviation Minister Sharad Yadav took ill and had to be hospitalised an hour before the party's conference in Patna on Thursday afternoon.

According to party workers, he complained of chest pain and was referred to the Intensive Care Unit of the Indira Gandhi Institute of Cardiology.

Sharad Yadav arrived in Patna on Wednesday to attend the conference called to counter the threat posed by Union Communications Minister Ram Vilas Paswan to split the party.

On Wednesday, he had a long meeting with the party's general secretary, Mangini Lal Mandal, and requested him to withdraw his resignation.

Rashtriya Janata Dal president Laloo Prasad Yadav and several JD(U) leaders called on him in the hospital to inquire about his health.

Later in the day, Yadav left for Delhi. Doctors said there was nothing to worry about.
