Kerala poll violence: Over 400 held, raids continue

Police continued its combing operations at several places in Kannur district in Kerala on Friday in search of the culprits allegedly involved in the violence relating to the local bodies' polls held here on September 27 even as the number of arrests in the poll-related clashes crossed the 400-mark.

"Almost all the accused responsible for the clashes and snatching of ballot boxes have been identified and raids are going on to nab them," Deputy Inspector General (Northern Range) B S Mohammed Yasin informed.

Extensive search operations were being conducted in areas under the Panur, Kolavallur, Koothuparamba and Thalassery police station limits, he said, adding that the police had identified almost all the culprits behind the booth-capturing, bomb-throwing and other violent incidents.

He said the arrests were being made after proper verification of identity and involvement of the accused in the incidents. The raids were likely to continue till all the culprits were booked, he added.
