Bihar government sounds red alert

The Bihar government has sounded a red alert in all the extremist affected areas of the state following the murder of Lohardagga police superintendent Ajay Kumar Singh.

State Home Secretary U N Panjiyar said the police force in extremist infested areas had been put on alert and a massive drive had been launched to nab extremists.

Apart from the Central Reserve Police Force, Bihar Military Police and the district police, additional forces had been deployed in the police stations coming under the affected areas to meet any eventuality, he informed.

Panjiyar said the district magistrates and police superintendents had been asked to remain extra cautious round the clock and intensify patrolling. Assistance of dog squads would also be taken if required.

Admitting to a shortage of para-military forces, he said the Centre had failed to meet the demand for 50 companies of para-military forces. The state had only 23 companies of central forces to tackle the situation, he added.

Panjiyar said high level meetings were being held to curb extremism in the state.
