380 held for poll-related violence in Kannur

As many as 380 persons, most of them belonging to political parties, have been arrested so far in connection with the violence that broke out during local bodies elections held in Kannur in Kerala on September 27.

DIG (northern range), B S Mohammed Yasin, told PTI that combing operations were continuing round-the-clock at several places in the district and raids were being conducted to unearth arms and explosives, allegedly stockpiled by the criminals at the time of elections.

He said almost all the accused had been identified and their alleged involvement in the violent incidents was under verification.

The entire district was calm now and search operations would continue based on specific information he said, adding that the number of arrests were likely to go up.
