Three killed in clashes, curfew imposed in Sojitra

Three persons were stabbed to death and five injured as supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress clashed on Saturday night over the panchayat poll outcome at Sojitra village of Anand district in Gujarat, forcing the authorities to impose an indefinite curfew in the village on Sunday morning.

Police fired two rounds to scare away the warring groups, which indulged in the assaults and arson in the village, police said.

Four houses, five shops, seven kiosks, two autorickshaws, and two scooters were set afire by the groups, police said.

Additional security personnel have been deployed in the riot-hit village and senior police officers have rushed there.

The situation in the village was now under control and no untoward incident was reported since Sunday morning, police added.
