RSS to launch image-building exercise

DELHI (AFP) -- The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh said Friday it was launching a major exercise to improve its public image.

The RSS said the month-long drive beginning Sunday in New Delhi would "remove misconceptions about the organisation."

"Some 30,000 RSS activists will establish contact with 2.5 million families in New Delhi during the period," said Satyanarayan Bansal, the chief of the RSS Delhi chapter.

"We will tell the minorities (Muslims and Christians) that we are not enemies. We are friends. We want to live together. We are not aggressive Hindus, we are only assertive Hindus," Bansal said.

"They should come closer and assess us," he said.

The month-long campaign is part of a nation-wide event planned by the RSS to mark 75 years of its founding.
