Hillary Clinton voted to US Senate

New Yorkers voted Hillary Rodham Clinton to the United States Senate making her the first-ever-sitting first lady to win an elected office. She beat Republican Rick Lazio.

This was one of the most-watched and expensive Senate races. Clinton, who stressed on education, health care and the environment in her campaign, had the endorsement of her husband President Bill Clinton whose popularity in New York remains unmatched.

The president, first lady and daughter Chelsea were among the early voters, making it to the polling booth one hour after voting began. The Clintons have brought a house in Chappaqua, New York.
