Bush is back in the reckoning

Republican George Bush Jr is back in the lead in the United States presidential race with 246 votes while his rival, Democrat and Vice President Al Gore, is trailing with 242 electoral votes, according to estimates, at 1040 hours (IST) Wednesday.

Republican George Bush Jr had earlier prevailed in Gore's home state of Tennessee (11) and also Ohio, according to estimates.

Al Gore has taken Minnesota (10 votes), Pennsylvania (23) and New York, according to estimates.

The total electoral votes needed to win the presidency is 270.
