Fate of 11 Indians in Taiwan crash not known

The fate of 11 Indians, who were among the 159 passengers aboard the Singapore Airlines plane that crashed at the Taipei's international airport just before take off on Tuesday, is not yet known.

The toll in the mishap, meanwhile, has mounted to 70, official reports said Wednesday.

China's official Xinhua news agency quoted the Singapore Airlines as confirming that 70 people have died and rescue operations are in progress.

This is the first figure of fatalities confirmed by the SA.

The SA did not specify the nationalities of the dead but confirmed that of the 159 passengers on board SQ 006, 55 are from Taiwan, 47 from United States, 11 each from India and Singapore, eight from Malaysia, five from Indonesia, four each from Mexico and United Kingdom, two each from Thailand, New Zealand and Vietnam and one each from Australia, Canada, Cambodia, Germany, Japan, Philippines, Ireland and the Canary Islands.
