Pak hands over body of Indian civilian at Wagah

E-Mail this report to a friend

Emotional scenes were witnessed when the body of Satpal, who reportedly worked for Military Intelligence, was handed over to Border Security Force officials by the Pakistan Rangers at the Wagah joint check-post today.

Satpal's father Tejpal broke down as the BSF officials handed over Satpal's body. Tejpal had come to receive the body along with his youngest son, Dharampal, all the way from his native village Dadwan in Gurdaspur district.

This was the first time that the body of an Indian national (civilian) has been handed over to India through this check-post. It took a month for Satpal's body to be returned to his motherland.

According to official records, Satpal crossed over to Pakistan in Gurdaspur sector on June 13 last year and was apprehended a day later. As per the records, Satpal died in a Lahore hospital on April 17 and his family was informed of the death by an intelligence official.
