7 Latur pilgrims die in AP bus mishap

Seven persons were killed and 32 others injured when a tourist bus overturned and fell into a gorge between Pedda Dornala and Srisailam pilgrim town in southern Andhra Pradesh on Sunday.

According to the state police, the private tourist bus with pilgrims from Latur in Maharashtra was on its way to Srisailam when the accident occurred around 2030 hours.

There were about 38 persons, including crew members in the bus. Six persons, including two women and a child, died on the spot and 32 others sustained injuries.

The dead bodies have been retrieved. The injured have been shifted to Kurnool general hospital and Sunnipenta hospital, the police added.

The pilgrims were proceeding to Srisailam temple after visiting several other places in the state. On receipt of information, police personnel from Markapur town rushed to the accident spot with some medical teams and organised relief and rescue operations.
