Sind HC to hear Sharief's appeal from May 9

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Sind high court has suspended the anti-terrorism court order for the confiscation of the property of ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharief, and decided to take up from May 9 his appeal against the judgment of life imprisonment in the plane hijacking conspiracy case.

A two-member bench of the court in Karachi also rejected an application of the defendant seeking orders for fixing of air-conditioners in his cell.

The judges -- Justices Abdul Ghani Sheikh and S A Rabbani -- also rejected his third appeal seeking orders to allow his party colleagues to meet him once a week.

The bench was recently reconstituted when one of its former members, Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar was upgraded and promoted as a judge of the supreme court.

The court also decided to take up a government appeal to commute the anti-terrorism court's life imprisonment punishment to death, and the appeal against the acquittal of six other aides of Sharief, including his younger brother Shahabaz Sharief.
